In 1817, a botanist from Germany, Prof.. Dr. Reinwadt initiated the establishment of Botanical Garden in the Netherlands Indies. This is because the triumph of the Dutch on the mark with science, and the Netherlands are actively developing science.
Exactly next to the Palace of the Governor-General in the Bogor Botanical garden that it was founded. Botanical Gardens was named "Slands Plantentium te Buitenzorg" which means Slands Botanical Gardens at Buitenzorg. This garden stands in an area of 87 Ha.
Existing plants in the Botanical Gardens is comprised of tropical plants with more than 20ribu types of plants that can be classified in 6ribu type species. These gardens are located on Jl. Ir. H. Juanda No. 13 Bogor, Phone 0251-311362.
The struggle is not over, because eventually the Dutch East Indies were independent. In 1949 "Slands Plantentium te Buitenzorg" changed its name to "Investigation Bureau of Nature". Then, as the Botanical gardens are managed by the Indonesian nation, renamed the Central Institute for Nature of Inquiry (LPPA) with its first director were: Prof. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo.
At first LPPA institutions have as many as six children, namely:
1. Bibliotheca Bogoriensis
2. Hortus Botanicus
3. Herbalium Bogoriensis
4. Treub Laboratory
5. Museums Zoologicum Bogoriensis
6. Marine Laboratory Investigation
KRB has as many as 3504 species, 1273 genera and 199 families. In 1997, the book guides visitors diteribtkan to help visitors enjoy the Bogor Botanical Gardens this. Title guidebook is: EMPAT RUTE JALAN KAKI dengan PANDUAN KEBUN RAYA BOGOR (FOUR FEET ROAD ROUTE with BOGOR BOTANICAL GARDEN GUIDE).
